Lord Helpus decides to end it all by drinking some poison, which the Butler has now switched for water. To the Butler's great amusement, Lord Helpus goes through some personal torment as he succomes to the 'poison'. This is 08m57s of what was originally a 16 minuter, which goes a long way to explain why events unfold in an abrupt manner. This is probably true of many of these very early movies, where the missing footage make them appear more poorly directed than if we were privileged to view a full version.
