Very good for this type. End of the world scenario, big cast; Japanese film in english... well done, I enjoyed it. If you like this one read 'The Ship'.. Author escapes me right now but similar theme but done much, much better.

Ignoring the technical faults (subtitles for the sections in spoken Japanese would have been nice for us monoglots), this is a frighteningly plausible scenario of how experiments in virology and germ warfare could bring about the end of civilisation. The implications and likely problems are not glossed over, and no easy solution is offered. Those of us old enough to remember "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." will recognise Robert Vaughan coping well with a serious role. Watch this film, and ask yourself what you would have done in the same circumstances. Then ask yourself what you can do to prevent those circumstances from ever happening.

Surprisingly well-done disaster story. Many notables in the cast (including George Kennedy, Chuck Conners, and Edward James Almos in an early role). Reminiscent of "On The Beach", but contains sufficient differences to stand well on its own. I was particularly struck by the frankness and downright realism with which the subject matter was handled. No overacting, no gratuitous special effects -- true respect is shown for the subject.

Overall a movie worth the bandwith. Story is straight and was often pictured before and after this. There are some well known actors to see, and the tale is dense and authentic. There are some scenes that sound a little unreflected - maybe the equalization of women was different in 1982 - and not well thought. However except from that its exciting and has a few funny scenes too. I liked it!

Virus (1980)(Fukkatsu no hi) I agree with the other reviewers on this film and say that it is a must see if you are into the doomsday/survival genre. I did not know of it until browsing on this site. I watched the PSP version and video is 7 / sound 8. It appears clipped at the sides and was very noticable at the end credits with the actors first names snipped [on any PSP video setting]. Also note that this is the shorter version, not the director's cut. Still worth downloading
