This movie is fun, and worth the download! Big band music to Colossus, who would have thought? Effeminate dudes complaining about laundry and swapping recipes? Oh yes, and a really, really bad endless modern dance number. Editing kind of jumpy at times, but plot easy enough to follow. No character development whatsoever, but none really needed. Go into this movie not expecting much, and you will be entertained!

I really wasn't sure what to expect with this movie. I don't think I have seen any of these so called 'Sword & Sandal' [peplum] films before, which I am led to believe take themselves too seriously. This one most certainly doesn't. This is {supposed to be?} a fantasy action comedy. We have bodybuilder Ed Fury as Glauco, who is the 'Colossus' of the title and fancies one of the prospective Amazon Queen-to-be. The lead is however Rod Taylor of The Birds & The Time Machine fame, his muscles are more in his head as he manages to think his way out of situations. He fancies the rival Queen-to-be. However, to become Queen, they must be celibate for the duration, so you can see the flaw in the guys plans. I can sum this movie up as a cocktail of other [and better] movies & TV shows. Take a fanasy film like Jason & the Argonauts (sans Harryhausen), add Carry On Up the Jungle, Carry On Cleo, The Two Ronnies 'The Worm that Turned', a Hope & Crosby Road movie and a West Side Story dance number for good measure, shake it all up, let it stand in the sun for a day or so until it gets most of the good humour bleached out, and you will be somewhere close I think. Despite what many people say about Rod Taylor being in this film, without him, or someone like him, stringing this film together, it would have been a truly terrible result. Video 7 / Sound 7. Best viewed whilst consuming some grapes, olives & a bottle of Prosecco.

"Colossus and the Amazon Queen" was the American title of a 1960 Italian Sword and Sandal "satire" directed by Vittorio Sala and featuring two actors imported from America, Ed Fury and (Australian) Rod Taylor.\ trap the cat
